The Origin and Development of Valves

Valves are devices used to control fluid flow, pressure, and direction, and are control components in pipeline transportation systems. The controlled fluid can be liquid, gas, gas-liquid mixture, or solid-liquid mixture. The control function of valves relies on the driving mechanism or fluid to drive the opening and closing components to move up, down, slide, swing or rotate to change the size of the flow channel area.
Valves have a wide range of applications, from the simplest globe valves to various valves used in extremely complex self-control systems. Valves are closely related to people's daily lives, such as faucets for water pipes and pressure reducing valves for liquefied petroleum gas stoves. Valves are also essential components in various mechanical equipment such as internal combustion engines, steam engines, compressors, pumps, pneumatic transmission devices, hydraulic transmission devices, vehicles, ships, and aircraft.
The birth of valves
The application of valves in industry
In 1769, Watt invented the steam engine, which officially introduced valves into the mechanical industry. Plug valves, safety valves, check valves, and butterfly valves were widely used in steam engines.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, the rapid promotion of steam engines in industries such as mining, smelting, textiles, and machinery manufacturing led to an increasing number and quality of valves, resulting in the emergence of slide valves. The successive emergence of globe valves with threaded valve stems and wedge gate valves with trapezoidal threaded valve stems was a major breakthrough in valve development. The emergence of these two types of valves not only met the increasing requirements for valve pressure and temperature in various industries at that time, but also initially met the requirements for flow regulation. Subsequently, with the rise of the power, petroleum, chemical, and shipbuilding industries, various high and medium pressure valves have rapidly developed.
After World War II, due to the development of various special materials, including polymer materials, lubricating materials, stainless steel, and cobalt based hard alloys, ancient plug valves and butterfly valves gained new applications, and ball valves and diaphragm valves evolved rapidly based on plug valves. The variety and quality of globe valves, gate valves, and other valves have increased. The valve manufacturing industry has gradually become an important sector of the machinery industry.

The Development of Internal Valve Industry
Since the 1970s, with the expansion of industrial production scale, some large petrochemical enterprises have introduced control valves while introducing equipment, which has pointed out the development direction for domestic control valve manufacturers.
In the 1980s, with the implementation of China's reform and opening-up policy, valve manufacturing technology and product quality were rapidly improved, producing various types of sleeve valves and eccentric rotary valves, and starting to develop precision small regulating valves.
In the 1990s, it was an era of rapid economic development, and at the same time, China's regulating valve industry began to introduce and digest advanced foreign technology, filling some gaps in special industrial control, improving the level of China's regulating valve industry, and shortening the gap with foreign countries.
With the development of modern nuclear industry, petrochemical industry, electronics industry, and aerospace industry, as well as the development of process automation control and long-distance fluid transportation, the development of modern low-temperature valves, vacuum valves, nuclear industry valves, and various regulating valves has been promoted. The application of valve drive devices for remote control and program control is increasing.
From ancient times to the present, valves have witnessed the changes of the times, and at the same time, the times have also witnessed the development process of valves from few to many, from simple to complex, and from shallow to deep.
Nowadays, there are more than 6000 large and medium-sized valve enterprises in China, and there are countless small valve enterprises. However, the Special Valve Group is a modern, diversified, and specialized valve enterprise that integrates research and development, production, and sales, with two major production bases in Wenzhou and Shanghai.
In recent years, the company has achieved the rise of depressions and the overtaking of bends in long-distance water transmission projects; We not only have equipment and comprehensive solutions for solving water hammer and water loss in pump stations and water supply pipelines, but also advocate for smart water management and smart factories! Rising rapidly in the valve industry; With comprehensive advantages in integrity, talent, innovation, management, technology, and many other aspects, we are at the forefront of the industry and have successfully become a backbone enterprise in China's valve manufacturing industry.
