Extreme working conditions challenges in the petroleum industry
The petrochemical production environment places extremely high demands on control valves. Valves need to operate stably within the temperature range of -196 ℃ to 850 ℃, while facing multiple tests such as high pressure difference, corrosive media, and long-term continuous operation.
High pressure and high pressure difference are common challenges. From the 10-100MPa high pressure that oil and gas wellhead equipment needs to withstand, to the severe pressure fluctuations of the medium inside the pipeline, it is required that the regulating valve must be able to withstand huge pressure differential changes. Corrosive media pose another severe challenge. Valves need to face strong corrosion from acidic media such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. Naphthenic acids in crude oil have extremely high corrosion rates on carbon steel at specific temperatures, which puts strict requirements on valve materials.
